Malcolm GauldIf, like me, you’re a history buff, you’ve probably seen or heard the old analysis that outlines the uncanny parallels between Presidents Lincoln and Kennedy. Sitting in an insurance office last week, my eye caught an old newsletter reprising the topic. It really is pretty amazing:
– Lincoln was elected to congress in 1846 and as president in 1860… JFK was elected to congress in 1946 and as president in 1960.
– Both their wives lost children while living in the White House.
– Lincoln’s secretary was named Kennedy… Kennedy’s was named Lincoln.
– Both were shot on a Friday, by Southerners (both of whom were known by their 3 names which were both comprised of 15 letters), and both of whom were assassinated before their trials.
– Lincoln was shot in a theatre named “Kennedy”… Kennedy in a car named “Lincoln.”
– Lincoln’s assassin ran from a theatre and was caught in a warehouse… Kennedy’s ran from a warehouse and was caught in a theatre.
– Both were succeeded by Southerners… both named Johnson.
– Andrew Johnson was born in 1808… Lyndon Johnson in 1908.
While I had heard all of those points before, here’s one I hadn’t:
A week before Lincoln was assassinated, he was in Monroe, Maryland… A week before Kennedy was shot, he was with Marilyn Monroe.
