Each Hyde-Bath senior has begun the 2011 Evals process with a written statement to the faculty as a declaration of where he or she sees him/herself in terms of Diploma, Certificate, or Document.  While these declarations can and often do change over the course of the Evals, they provide a starting point.  Here are some comments from those students who are currently declaring themselves Diploma recipients.

The main reason I’m saying diploma is simple: Hyde taught me what it means to care about other people as well as myself, and I have the intent to take what I’ve learned here and continue to apply it outside these walls.

I believe that from the start I have had a strong senior year, and I have developed a strong conscience and have allowed my moral compass to point me in the right direction. I have taken I believe that from the start I have had a strong senior year, and I have developed a strong conscience and have allowed my moral compass to point me in the right direction.

I put myself at Diploma because I feel that I have truly intertwined the Hyde principles within myself and my outside life. Over my four years at Hyde, I have grown a lot in several different ways, but I feel that I have really attempted to “take hyde home” with me this year and truly understand why we do the things we do here.

Throughout the past year I have risen to meet my own personal aspirations and expectations.  Although many life experiences still lie ahead, I will leave Hyde with a strong knowledge of who I am and what my morals are. Last year I was ready to leave high school, however, this year I am ready to enter college.

I think that I have made great strides in my leadership, but also still know how to let someone else lead.  I have shown commitment to my campus job and athletic teams, and am proud of myself for that.

I believe this year that I have really stepped outside my comfort zone and challenged myself. Instead of isolating myself in the art barn as I did last year, I have worked on connecting with others and bringing my leadership that was originally only in art, to the school.

I think that since last year I have made huge steps in my maturity, work ethic, and integrity.  I think that there are many things that I still need to continue to work on however.  Recently I have been taking a look at different styles of leadership, and how a good leader is one that can change and adapt his or her style of leadership to different situations.

In future postings, I will serve up Certificate and Document declarations.

Onward,  Malcolm Gauld
