This week I learned that Character.org — an educational non-profit organization based in DC with a mission to “provide global leadership, voice, and resources for developing character in families, schools, and organizations” — has honored the Discovery Process as a “Promising Practice.”
The “Promising Practices” honors a select number of schools and organizations each year in order to recognize breakthroughs in character development methodologies that might be replicated in other schools and communities. As Character.org’s website explains, “Promising Practices can elevate relationship building, service learning, academic growth, improved behavior, student voice and leadership, parent and community engagement, and help each student to feel like they belong.”
This honor happened thanks to the efforts of two groups of people:
1) Our team at the Hyde Institute for creating the program;
2) The teachers and students across the country who utilize the Discovery Process in daily in pursuit of their efforts to put Culture First in their schools.
As we say, “Every school has a culture. Is yours by design or default?”
