Laura and I recently joined a Hyde contingent of alums, faculty, and parents at The Cape Cod Melody Tent at Hyannis (MA) to take in a Boz Scaggs/Michael McDonald show. (Michael’s son, Dylan ’07, graduated from Hyde-Bath.) While the music by itself would have been enough to keep me happy, we all got to hang out with Michael backstage before the show. Needless to say, it was great! At the same time, the scene conflicted sharply with the rock & roll fantasies I conjured up in my teenaged mind four decades ago. Looking over the decidedly middle-aged crowd, I thought to myself, “Sex, Drugs, and Rock & Roll? I think not!” Then again….wait a minute….apparently we Baby-Boomers were wrong: the first two are not necessary prerequisites to the third. The music works independently as a separate entity. Maybe better! Thanks Michael (and Boz) for a wonderful evening.
