Add Some Music to Your Day

We end every Biggest Job workshop with a story about the great cellist Pablo Casals (1876-1973), a musician noted for his beautiful sound and relentless practice.  Casals was once approached by a reporter who asked, “Mr. Casals, you have long been considered the greatest cellist in the world. At age 96, why do you still practice six hours a day?” Casals reportedly replied, “Because I think I’m making progress.”

In an interview I read last week, Neil Young seemed to be channeling Casals.  Having just published an autobiography, he’s been making the usual rounds of interviews.  One reporter asked, “What goal do you have in music now?”  Young replied, “I want to be a better guitar player, and I want to learn to sing better.”  What a concept.
