As the 2019-20 school year gets underway, I thought I’d point out a pretty cool happening concerning three former faculty members, all of whom begin the year as newly appointed heads of school. All three served Hyde with 15+ year tenures. All three were soccer stalwarts as both players and coaches. All three are, well, great guys!

Jeff Burroughs begins at Lincoln Academy in Newcastle, Maine. He and his wife Melissa held down more roles here at Hyde than I could fit on this blog. They are also alumni parents (Liza ’18). After several years at St. Johnsbury Academy (VT), it is great to have them just a few towns north of us on Route #1.

Beginning his second headship, Kevin Folan is switching to Providence Country Day School (RI) from Hilltop Country Day School (NJ). His wife Rachel, also a longtime Hyde faculty member, will continue serving as Director of Professional Development with The New Jersey Association of Independent Schools.

And Matt Newberg takes the reins at Maine Academy of Natural Sciences in Hinckley, Maine. (Hyde alums of an older generation will be interested to know that this school is on the campus of the former Hinckley School.) Matt, wife Brooke, daughter Dylan, and son Vail are still living in the Bath area while Matt commutes to Hinckley. I’m dropping hints about him making a guest appearance at our Singer/Songwriter Workshop in February…(:-).

All the best to these three school heads, their families, and their new schools!

Onward, Malcolm
