Malcolm Gauld#hyde2016randompics – Pretty cool when a multi-Grammy winner like Michael McDonald comes to campus for a week to work with your students on songwriting. I took this shot at the Chocolate Church Theater in Bath on the final night when each student performs his/her song before a real audience. They accompany each other on various instruments with Michael typically chipping in — as inconspicuously as he can — with background vocals or piano. This shot is from the group finale number. I think this annual workshop is one of the very best things we do at Hyde. Hey, it’s not unusual for the kids to wonder, “Who are the Doobie Brothers, anyway?” But the experience is nearly always transformative.
