This weekend I will join my fellow (Well, we had one girl in this, Hyde’s first year of coeducation.) classmates in celebration of our 40th (Yikes!) reunion. While I doubt there will be any turntables (Remember turntables?) spinning tunes as we celebrate, if there were, here are 20 albums (Remember albums?) I’d put in rotation:
1. Allman Brothers – Pick 1: At Fillmore East or Eat a Peach
2. The Band – Cahoots
3. Beach Boys – Surf’s Up
4. Jackson Browne – Saturate Before Using
5. J. Geils Band – The Morning After
6. Grateful Dead – Grateful Dead
7. George Harrison & Friends – Concert for Bangladesh
8. Elton John – Madman Across the Water
9. John Lennon – Imagine
10. Van Morrison – Pick 1: St. Dominic’s Preview or Tupelo Honey
11. Randy Newman – Sail Away
12. Bonnie Raitt – Bonnie Raitt
13. Lou Reed – Lou Reed
14. Rolling Stones – Pick 1: Sticky Fingers or Exile on Main Street
15. Carly Simon – Anticipation
16. Sly & The Family Stone – There’s a Riot Goin’ On
17. Traffic – Low Spark of High Heeled Boys
18. The Who – Who’s Next
19. Stevie Wonder – Music of My Mind
20. Neil Young – Harvest
Bonus: Marvin Gaye – What’s Goin’ On
So, to paraphrase The Who: Hope we die before we get old! (And let’s be sure to raise a glass to three who did exactly that: Raff Henderson, Brian Richards, Joe Slattery, R.I.P.)
