Malcolm GauldIf you are raising or teaching children, stop what you are doing and read this article (link below) by Stanford psychologist Carol Dweck. It was sent to me by Craig Cunningham, a former Hyde teacher who currently serves as a professor of education at National-Louis University in Chicago.
While we Hyde folks have arrived at our theories as practitioners in the field, Dweck has arrived at hers through extensive intellectual research. The first sentence in “The Secret to Raising Smart Kids,” her 2007 article for Scientific American, strongly suggests that we are kindred spirits:
“Hint: Don’t tell your kids that they are. More than three decades of research shows that a focus on effort — not on intelligence or ability — is key to success in school and in life.”
